Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork. Trevor Ariza Jersey .com) - Two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka thinks maybe she should have skipped her 2014 season altogether, believing she was never able to train and/or properly prepare for her matches. The results showed and then she certainly got off to a rough start this week. The 25-year-old star was injured for most of the year and also stopped dating Stefan Gordy, aka RedFoo, in 14. But Azarenka felt that giving up last year was never an option. The former No. 1 star is currently ranked 42nd in the world and dropped her first match of 2015 versus Karolina Pliskova in more than three hours in Brisbane this week, although the Czech left-hander Pliskova is one of rising stars in the womens game. For the record, Azarenka titled in Brisbane in 2009 and was last years runner-up there at the hands of one of her two key rivals, Serena Williams (with Maria Sharapova being the other). The native of Belarus captured back-to-back Aussie Open titles and was the back-to-back U.S. Open runner-up in 2012 and 2013 and finished 12 as the No. 1 player in the world. Fast forward to 2014 when a foot injury kept her on the sidelines for three months and she never quite re-located her game after that. Vika lost to Agnieszka Radwanska in last years Aussie quarterfinals, then dropped four of her next five matches, stretching out between March and July. She entered just three tournaments from August on -- highlighted by a third straight U.S. Open quarterfinal appearance. Azarenka was depressed for a while from a tennis standpoint, but now feels like shes once again ready to go. The important thing, and whats exciting is how you come out of it, she said. Thats what shows a strong personality, a strong character, because its a challenge of life; its more. Obviously, things havent been all bad for Azarenka, whose aggressive baseline style and fierce two-handed backhand have led her to 17 career titles (just none since 2013) in 32 WTA finals and more than $24 million in prize money. Until last season, the four-time Grand Slam finalist had been a fixture in the top 10 for five years. And you can almost always count on seeing her in the latter stages of the Slams, having reached at least the quarterfinals at 14 of the last 24 majors (and she missed last years French Open due to injury, the only major event shes missed since joining the circuit). And even with all her problems last year, she still managed to play in three of the four Slams. Shes reached at least the semis at all four majors. Just like everyone else, I dont have that crystal ball that can predict the future. But if I had to make a prediction, I would lean in the shell be returning to the top 10 sooner rather than later direction. Vikas just too good not to. Cory Joseph Jersey . - Olympic champion Marielle Thompson accomplished her mission of defending her skicross World Cup title at Nakiska Ski Area on Saturday. Bogdan Bogdanovic Jersey . The Sioux Falls Canaries scored two in the seventh and three more in the eighth to come back from a 3-0 deficit and defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-3 in front of 6,769 at Shaw Park on Sunday afternoon. https://www.kingslockerroom.com/Marvin-Bagley-City-Edition-Jersey/ . He was 90. The team announced Monday that Adams had died, saying he "passed away peacefully from natural causes." The son of a prominent oil executive, Adams built his own energy fortune and founded the Houston Oilers. LOS ANGELES -- Steve Mason posted his second shutout in three games with 35 saves and Wayne Simmonds scored his 100th NHL goal, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. It was the 22nd career shutout and third this season for Mason, who stopped 33 shots in a 5-0 win against Detroit last Tuesday after getting pulled by coach Craig Berube in two of his previous three starts. Mason got a break with less than 3 1/2 minutes left, when Justin Williams tried a wraparound and hit the left post. Claude Giroux added his 17th goal on a power play with 1:58 left, converting a cross-ice pass at the left of the crease from Scott Hartnell while Matt Greene was serving an interference penalty. The Flyers have scored a power-play goal in six straight games. The Kings have scored fewer than three goals in 16 of 20 games since their 25-8-4 start, and are 5-13-2 during that stretch with five shutout losses. They have only three goals in their past six games combined, all of them by Anze Kopitar. The Flyers had managed only five shots on net before Simmonds got his 18th goal at 7:48 of the first period. Jonathan Quick, who faced only 13 shots, overplayed Vincent Lecavalier at the right of the crease along with Kings defenceman Jake Muzzin following a turnover by the Kings in their zone, and Simmonds slammed the puck into a wide-open net. The Kings Robyn Regehr played in his 1,000th NHL rregular-season game, becoming the 98th defenceman in NHL history to reach that plateau, and the club marked the occasion with a pregame ceremony. Harry Giles Kings Jersey. Regehrs first game was Oct. 28, 1999, with the Calgary Flames at Ottawa. Among those taking part in Saturdays ceremony were former Calgary teammate Craig Conroy and Regehrs grandmother, who wore a Flames jersey with his old No. 28. It was the first meeting between the Kings and Flyers since Oct. 15, 2011, when Los Angeles won 3-2. Saturday also was a reunion for Kings centre Jeff Carter, whom the Flyers traded to Columbus on June 23, 2011 -- the same day they dealt Richards to Los Angeles. Eight months later, the Kings acquired Richards by sending Jack Johnson to the Blue Jackets. Carter and Richards led Los Angeles to its first Stanley Cup title in 2012, two years after helping the Flyers get to the finals. NOTES: Richards has one goal in his past 32 games, and that one came on the power play. Carter has no goals in his past six games, following a four-game goal streak. ... Kings C Colin Fraser is one of seven forwards in the league to have played 30 or more games this season without scoring a goal -- and average at least nine minutes of ice time. ... The Kings are 19-3-0 when scoring more than two goals. ... Among the numerous Kings-Flyers connections is fan favourite Ian Laperriere, who played eight-plus seasons with Los Angeles and is now an assistant coach with Philadelphia. ' ' '
